Stained glass for window manufacturers

When selecting stained glass, you must prioritize glass thickness (typically 3mm to 6mm) and the type of assembly. For modern construction, ensure the stained glass can be integrated into Double Glazed Units (DGU) or Triple Glazed Units to meet thermal insulation requirements. Additionally, verify the opacity levels and UV resistance of the pigments to prevent fading over time.

For B2B buyers, compliance with ANSI Z97.1 (US) or EN 12150 (EU) for safety glazing is critical if the glass is installed in high-traffic areas. Ensure the lead cames or copper foils used meet REACH or RoHS standards regarding lead content, especially for residential projects. Always request tempering or lamination certifications if the glass is intended for structural windows.

Request high-resolution photos of the solder joints; they should be smooth, uniform, and free of 'beading' or gaps. For painted glass, ask for the kiln-firing temperature specifications—high-quality traditional stained glass should be fired at over 1,200°F (650°C) to fuse the vitreous paint to the glass permanently. Check for weather-stripping or waterproofing treatments applied to the perimeter.

A top-tier supplier should provide CAD/BIM drawing support to ensure dimensions match your architectural plans. They should offer a variety of techniques including Tiffany-style copper foil, traditional lead came, zinc came, and sandblasting. The ability to provide custom color matching based on Pantone or RAL codes is a significant advantage for large-scale commercial branding projects.

Stained glass is highly fragile; therefore, you must mandate custom-built plywood crates rather than standard cardboard. Ensure the supplier uses shock-absorbent foam inserts and packs the glass vertically (on edge) rather than flat. For high-value orders, insist on Impact Indicator labels (like ShockWatch) on the exterior packaging to monitor handling during transit.

Utilize a 30% deposit and 70% balance payment structure, with the balance paid only after a third-party pre-shipment inspection (PSI). On platforms like Made-in-China.com, look for Audited Suppliers to mitigate the risk of fraud. Request a production sample of a small section of the design to verify color accuracy before the full production run begins.

Verify the HS Code (typically 7006.00 or 7016.10) to determine import duties in your country. Because glass is heavy, Sea Freight (LCL or FCL) is the most economical method, but you must account for a longer lead time of 30-45 days. Ensure the commercial invoice clearly states the fragility and insurance value, and always purchase All-Risk Marine Insurance.

Always conduct transactions through secured payment services provided by reputable B2B platforms like Made-in-China.com. Avoid direct wire transfers to private accounts. Verify the supplier's business license and export permit to ensure they are a legitimate manufacturing entity and not an unlicensed middleman.
