Lotus leaf tea manufacturers

When sourcing, prioritize whole, unbroken leaves over crushed fragments, as intact leaves better preserve the alkaloids and flavonoids. The color should be a natural grayish-green; avoid leaves that appear overly yellow (indicating age) or unnaturally bright green (indicating potential artificial coloring). The aroma should be fresh and grassy, without any musty or chemical odors.

Ensure the supplier utilizes low-temperature drying or freeze-drying technology to maintain the active ingredient Nuciferine, which is sensitive to high heat. For tea bags, verify that the filter paper is food-grade, heat-sealable, and plastic-free (such as corn fiber or non-woven fabric) to meet modern environmental and health standards.

As a botanical product, it must meet Phytosanitary certification requirements. For the US market, FDA registration is mandatory. For the EU, compliance with REACH and Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for pesticides is critical. Additionally, ISO 22000 or HACCP certifications are essential to prove the supplier's food safety management system is robust.

Request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch, specifically looking for the content percentage of Nuciferine and total flavonoids. Suppliers on Made-in-China.com who provide third-party lab reports (e.g., from SGS or Intertek) are preferred to validate claims regarding metabolic support and detoxification.

The biggest risks are moisture absorption and microbial growth during sea transit. Ensure the supplier uses vacuum-sealed moisture-proof aluminum foil bags for bulk packaging. Another risk is customs rejection due to pesticide residues; always conduct a pre-shipment inspection to verify the batch matches the provided samples.

Negotiate a Quality Assurance Agreement that defines the 'Grade A' standard (leaf size, color, moisture content <7%). For large orders, suggest a staggered payment plan where the final 30% is released only after the goods pass a local third-party quality check upon arrival.

Since tea is relatively light but voluminous, sea freight (LCL) is most economical for orders over 200kg. However, for high-value organic lotus leaf tea, Air Freight is recommended to reduce transit time and the risk of flavor degradation. Always clarify Incoterms, preferring FOB (Free On Board) to maintain control over your logistics costs.

Check if the supplier has a Gold Member status on Made-in-China.com and look for the 'Audited Supplier' badge. Review their Business License to ensure their scope includes 'Food Production' or 'Agricultural Processing' rather than just 'Trading,' which ensures you are dealing directly with the source factory.
