Fresh orange manufacturers

Quality evaluation should focus on Brix level (sugar content), juice yield, and external appearance. For premium markets, a Brix level of 11-14% is preferred. Ensure the oranges have a smooth skin texture, are firm to the touch, and show no signs of greening or pitting. Grading is typically based on diameter (e.g., 65mm-80mm) and weight; ensure the supplier adheres to UNECE standards or specific regional grading systems.

Buyers must prioritize suppliers with GlobalG.A.P. certification, which ensures good agricultural practices. For entry into major markets, a Phytosanitary Certificate issued by the exporting country's national plant protection organization is mandatory to prove the cargo is pest-free. Additionally, verify Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) compliance for pesticides according to the destination country's regulations (e.g., FDA for the US or EFSA for the EU).

Fresh oranges require breathable packaging, typically corrugated fiberboard boxes or plastic crates with ventilation holes to prevent CO2 buildup. The cold chain must be strictly maintained at 3°C to 5°C (37°F to 41°F) with a relative humidity of 85-90% to prevent shriveling. For long-distance sea freight, use Reefer Containers equipped with Atmospheric Control (CA) to extend shelf life by up to 6-8 weeks.

Identify the specific variety based on the end-use: Navel oranges are best for fresh consumption due to being seedless, while Valencia oranges are superior for juicing. Because citrus is seasonal, professional buyers should diversify sourcing between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres (e.g., sourcing from China or Egypt from Nov-May and South Africa or Australia from June-Oct) to ensure year-round supply.

The biggest risks are transit spoilage and customs rejection due to pests. Mitigate this by using Third-Party Pre-shipment Inspections (e.g., SGS or CCIC) at the loading port. Ensure the contract includes a Quality Claim Clause that defines the acceptable percentage of 'natural loss' (usually 3-5%) and the process for photographic evidence upon arrival.

When sourcing via Made-in-China.com, focus negotiations on Price Elasticity based on Seasonality and Payment Security. Request Audit Reports of the packing house and orchards. For new suppliers, use Escrow-based payment terms or Letter of Credit (L/C) to ensure funds are only released upon the presentation of valid shipping and phytosanitary documents.

Fresh fruit is often subject to Seasonal Tariffs and Anti-dumping duties. Always check the HS Code (typically 080510) against the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) between the origin and destination countries. Utilizing a Certificate of Origin can often reduce import duties from 10-30% down to zero in specific trade blocks.

For cross-border trade, Sea Freight in Reefer Containers is the most economically feasible method. For ultra-premium or 'tree-ripened' varieties, Air Freight may be used but significantly increases the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Ensure the freight forwarder provides Real-time Temperature Monitoring logs throughout the journey to verify the cold chain was never broken.
