Dial scales manufacturers

Selecting a dial scale requires matching the mechanical accuracy with the specific use case. For heavy industrial use, prioritize powder-coated steel housings and shatter-proof glass or high-impact plastic covers to protect the dial. For food service, ensure the platform is made of Grade 304 Stainless Steel to prevent corrosion and meet hygiene standards. Always verify the graduation increments; for retail, smaller increments (e.g., 50g or 0.1lb) are necessary for precision, while industrial scales may prioritize higher weight capacities (up to 500kg) over fine increments.

Buyers must ensure the scales meet OIML (International Organization of Legal Metrology) R76 standards for non-automatic weighing instruments. If the scale is used for 'Legal for Trade' transactions, it must have NTEP certification (for the US) or MID approval (for the EU). Key technical specs include temperature compensation mechanisms to ensure the internal spring maintains accuracy in varying climates, and a zero-reset adjustment knob that is easy to calibrate manually.

Focus on the internal spring quality; high-carbon steel springs are preferred for their resistance to 'creep' or permanent deformation. Request cycle test reports from the supplier—reputable manufacturers test their mechanisms for over 100,000 weighings. Additionally, check for damping systems (oil or air) that stabilize the needle quickly, reducing wait time between measurements and increasing operational efficiency.

Unlike digital scales, dial scales require no batteries or power, but they do need periodic calibration checks using certified test weights. Maintenance involves keeping the internal rack and pinion mechanism free of dust and debris. For scales used in wet environments, ensure the unit has an IP65 or higher rating for the casing to prevent internal rusting of the mechanical components.

The primary risk is calibration shift during transit due to heavy vibrations or rough handling. To mitigate this, ensure the supplier uses locking mechanisms for the internal spring during shipping and employs double-walled corrugated packaging with custom foam inserts. Another risk is regulatory seizure if the scale is not pre-certified for the destination country's trade laws; always confirm the HS Code (typically 8423) and local metrology requirements before shipping.

When sourcing on Made-in-China.com, leverage the Audit Reports to identify 'Gold Members' with verified manufacturing facilities. Negotiate based on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just unit price. Ask for tiered pricing (e.g., 500, 1000, and 5000 units) and request spare parts (extra springs, glass covers, and needles) to be included at a discount, which reduces your long-term maintenance costs.

Use Trade Assurance or secure payment terms offered through the platform to protect your capital. For shipping, FOB (Free On Board) is recommended for large volumes to maintain control over freight costs. Ensure the Bill of Lading clearly describes the goods as 'Mechanical Weighing Machinery' to avoid customs delays. For fragile dial faces, consider sea freight with palletization rather than air courier to minimize the risk of impact damage.
