Cotton muslin manufacturers

When evaluating cotton muslin, you must focus on thread count and yarn size (e.g., 40s, 60s, or 80s), as these determine the fabric's fineness and breathability. For B2B applications like baby products or high-end apparel, prioritize 100% combed cotton to ensure softness and minimize pilling. Additionally, verify the GSM (Grams per Square Meter); a range of 80-120 GSM is standard for lightweight breathable layers, while higher weights are used for home textiles.

Compliance is critical, especially for products in contact with skin. Ensure the supplier holds OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification to guarantee the absence of harmful substances. For organic claims, a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certificate is essential. If exporting to the US, products must comply with CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) requirements, particularly regarding lead content and flammability standards for children's sleepwear.

Request third-party lab test reports focusing on colorfastness to washing and light, shrinkage rates (which should ideally be under 3-5%), and tensile strength. For multi-layer muslin (like 2-layer or 4-layer gauze), check the interlocking technique to ensure the layers do not separate after repeated industrial laundering.

Cotton muslin is highly versatile. In the baby care sector, it is used for swaddles and bibs due to its hypoallergenic and moisture-wicking properties. In fashion, it serves as a base for prototyping (toiles) or lightweight summer garments. For home textiles, it is popular for breathable bedding. Ensure you specify the finish (e.g., bleached, unbleached, or reactive printed) based on the end-use scenario.

The most significant risk is material substitution, where a supplier may blend polyester to reduce costs. To mitigate this, use Made-in-China.com’s Secured Trading services and insist on a pre-shipment inspection (PSI). Another risk is color shade variance between batches; always request a lab dip approval before mass production begins.

For custom designs, Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ) usually range from 1,000 to 3,000 meters. You can negotiate a lower MOQ by choosing digital printing instead of screen printing, though the per-meter cost will be higher. For bulk orders exceeding 5,000 meters, aim for a 10-15% volume discount and negotiate FOB (Free On Board) terms to maintain control over your shipping costs.

For large fabric rolls, Sea Freight (LCL or FCL) is the most economical method. Ensure the supplier uses double-layer waterproof packaging (inner polybag + outer woven bag) to prevent moisture damage during transit. For urgent samples or small trial orders, Air Express is preferred. Always clarify the HS Code (typically 5208 for cotton fabrics) to accurately calculate import duties in your destination country.
